Most laminate repairs come down to a few problems: a chipped or water-swollen plank, joints that peak up, or gaps that open between rows.
One damaged plank can often be replaced without tearing up the room. On click-lock floors near a wall, we unclick the rows back to the bad board and relay them. In the middle of the room, we cut the damaged plank out and glue in a new one with the bottom lip trimmed. You need spare planks from the same lot for a close color match, so dig through the garage before you call.
Peaking is usually a missing expansion gap. The floor has grown against a wall, a door jamb or a pipe, and it has nowhere to go but up. We pull the base, trim the edge back to a proper 1/4 to 3/8 inch gap and the joints usually settle.
Water-swollen HDF does not shrink back. If a leak has run under the floor, those planks need replacing and the subfloor needs to dry first. When damage is spread across a room, laminate floor replacement is often the better value, and we will tell you which way we would go.
